Today HP announced that it was taking its popular and affordable Z240 workstation and increasing what’s under the hood. The Z240 has been popular with many small to medium businesses especially those that lean toward design, video production, and architecture. HP states that they are doubling the memory and processing power as well as adding a software receiver to seamlessly link up Apple, Linux and Windows environments.
Today HP announced that it was taking its popular and affordable Z240 workstation and increasing what’s under the hood. The Z240 has been popular with many small to medium businesses especially those that lean toward design, video production, and architecture. HP states that they are doubling the memory and processing power as well as adding a software receiver to seamlessly link up Apple, Linux and Windows environments.
This release marks the third generation of HP’s popular Z240 workstation. The Z240 has been upgraded based off of feedback from users and now sports a 4.2GHz processor but is still priced similar to a traditional desktop. The feedback HP has received has helped them to decide on which features to include in the latest generation of the workstation.
Features include:
- Integrated M.2 slot for expansion cards and connectors, freeing up a PCIe slot to use for HP Z Turbo Drives or other devices like Thunderbolt
- Next generation Intel processors, NVIDIA or AMD graphics, memory, and two optional ultra-fast HP Z Turbo Drives
- Up to 64 GB DDR4 ECC memory – a 100% increase in memory capacity compared to previous generations
- Choice of Windows 7, Windows 10 or Linux operating systems
- Optional dust filters
- Carrying handles on the back and side of the tower
- All components are ISV certified
HP also release some internal testing that resulted in the Z240 performing 13% faster for Autodesk Revit and 12% faster for AutoCad.
HP is also announcing the newly integrated HP Remote Graphics Software (RGS) receiver. The RGS enables user to securely connect to the Mac based computers with Z Workstations. Once connected users can multitask between native Mac OS apps and Windows or Linux workstation apps. This can further enhance collaboration on projects in the future.
Availability and pricing
The HP Z240 is expected to be available with the RGS receiver next month, starting at less than $900.
