WD Announces ActiveScale P100 Entry-Level Object Storage System

Today Western Digital Corporation announced its new entry-level object storage system, the ActiveScale P100 System. Built to address cloud-scale challenges and expanding on WD’s existing systems, the ActiveScale P100 is a modular, plug-and-play object storage system that, according to WD, provides the foundation for the future of petabyte scale storage infrastructure. The ActiveScale P100 is also aiming to be a cost-effective solution.


Today Western Digital Corporation announced its new entry-level object storage system, the ActiveScale P100 System. Built to address cloud-scale challenges and expanding on WD’s existing systems, the ActiveScale P100 is a modular, plug-and-play object storage system that, according to WD, provides the foundation for the future of petabyte scale storage infrastructure. The ActiveScale P100 is also aiming to be a cost-effective solution.

Building off of WD’s other acquisitions, such as HGST and SanDisk, the P100 joins the rest of WD’s Data Center Systems portfolio including Active Archive System, the InfiniFlash all-Flash storage platform. The P100 can scale from 720TB to over 2PB of raw capacity, growing in what WD calls easy-to-install increments. The P100 uses the AWS S3 interface for object storage, is ideal for markets such as on-premise and off-premise cloud, life sciences, government/defense, and media and entertainment industry applications, and can address both capacity and performance concerns.

The ActiveScale P100 also comes with a new cloud-based system monitoring tool, ActiveScale CM. This tool comes at no extra costs to help customers manage their systems. It provides remote system health monitoring, predictive capacity, and performance analytics. These capabilities can help companies as they begin to manage petabyte-scale data.
