Today at NAB 2017 in Las Vegas, AMD announced its Radeon Pro Duo, the world’s first dual-GPU graphics card designed for professionals. The Pro Duo is built off of the Radeon Pro WX 7100 and is designed to excel at media and entertainment, broadcast, and design and manufacturing workflows. AMD goes on to state that the new graphics card will deliver outstanding performance and superior flexibility.
Equipped with 32GB of GDDR5 memory, the Radeon Pro Duo is able to easily handle larger data sets, more intricate 3D models, higher resolution videos, and complex assemblies. According to AMD, operating at a max power of 250W, the Radeon Pro Duo harnesses a total of 72 compute units (4608 stream processors) for a combined performance of up to 11.45 TFLOPS of single-precision compute performance on one board, and twice the geometry throughput of the Radeon Pro WX 7100. The Pro Duo can support up to four 4K monitors (at 60Hz), one 8K monitor (at 30Hz), or one 8K monitor at 60Hz using a dual cable solution.
The Pro Duo is all about performance and flexibility. It’s dual-GPU build enables smooth multitasking as it can allocate GPU resources to each task. The multiple GPUs also increase performance. AMD states that on certain applications, the Pro Duo can deliver 2x faster performance than the Pro WX 71003. The Pro Duo is ideal for use cases such as VR content creation. The two GPUs can render content for each eye. AMD's LiquidVR technologies are also supported by the industry's leading real-time engines, including Unity and Unreal, to help ensure smooth, comfortable, and responsive VR experiences on Radeon Pro Duo.
