Today at VeeamOn 2017, Quantum Corp. announced integration with Veeam for two of its products, DXi deduplication appliances and Scalar tape storage platform. The new integrations are all about using Veeam’s “3-2-1 rule” (storing at least three copies of data on two different types of media with one backup copy offsite). Quantum and Veeam will be showcasing joint solutions at VeeamON 2017, May 16-18 in New Orleans.

This new integration with the Veeam Data Mover Service (VDMS) enables DXi deduplication appliances to support the full breadth of advanced Veeam features such as synthetic full backup creation and instant VM recovery. The two companies state that using Veeam with DXi deduplication appliances can both maximize availability of production environments while minimizing backup storage costs. Aside from the above mentioned benefits, DXi appliances will also be added to the Veeam user interface in the next software release.
Tape is often times thought of as an almost archaic technology, however it is still widely used and relied on today. Users with 100% virtual environment that want offline tape protection have need to turn to physical tape servers to create tape. However, users can leverage Quantum’s Scalar iBlade designed for Veeam to solve this issue. The iBlade an embedded blade server that can be installed into the Scalar i3 and Scalar i6 tape libraries. This creates a fully converged tape storage solution for Veeam environments that enables the creation of tape without the requirement of a separate physical server.
Availability and Pricing
The Scalar iBlade is expected to be available in limited quantities in June, with general availability expected in July. List Price starts at $7,900. No additional Veeam licensing is required.
DXi 3.4 software will be released next quarter, and any current DXi customers on 3.x software will be able to upgrade to this version of software to take advantage of this integration with any supported version of Veeam software.
