Eaton has announced the North American launch of its Open Compute Project (OCP) Open Rack v3 (ORV3) compatible solutions. It is purpose-built and preconfigured with a focus on the efficient, and scalable delivery of critical power for their data centers seeking to deploy ORV3 racks.
Eaton has announced the North American launch of its Open Compute Project (OCP) Open Rack v3 (ORV3) compatible solutions. It is purpose-built and preconfigured with a focus on the efficient, and scalable delivery of critical power for their data centers seeking to deploy ORV3 racks.
Comprised of solutions that include racks, busbars, power cords and power shelves, they are built to the latest OCP standards. The ORV3-compatible solutions will be demonstrated at this year’s OCP Global Summit in San Jose on October 18, 2022.
Eaton indicates that customers can use the ORV3-compatible solutions either as off-the-shelf or as reference designs for fully customized solutions to the specific needs of their IT environments. They also leverage the latest Open Rack specifications for rack and shelf size, thermal testing and peak load performance.
Eaton will provide solutions to house and power ORV3 IT hardware, as well as transitional hybrid solutions that support both ORV3 21-inch equipment and traditional EIA 19-inch equipment.
Eaton indicates the following additional features of the new OCP solutions:
- Up to 30kW per rack
- Up to 50% energy savings
- Convenient blind-mate power connections
- Support for 21-inch ORV3-compatible equipment and 19-inch EIA-compatible equipment in the same rack
Eaton ORV3-compatible Solutions
Featuring an extra-wide and extra-deep cabinet, the open rack enclosure supports hybrid equipment mounting and features two locking-colocation compartments. Its upper and lower sets of mounting rails support 21-inch ORV3 equipment and traditional 19-inch EIA equipment.
The open rack enclosure features an optional built-in ORV3 busbar and ORV3 power shelf. The vertical ORV3 busbar distributes DC power from a power shelf to equipment mounted in the open rack via blind-mate power connections, while the power shelf provides up to 18 kW of DC power (which also features a convenient blind-mate power connection).
In addition, the detachable AC input power cords can connect to an ORV3 power shelf, supporting a range of site power connections like IEC and NEMA.
