Pure Storage announced a new version of Portworx Enterprise and, with it, a fully managed service to bring a Kubernetes-ready data plane to every developer working on containerized applications. Portworx Enterprise 3.0 is the underlying platform for the service giving DevOps teams the ability to run mission-critical Kubernetes apps in production with elastic scalability and improved data availability.
The entire Portworx portfolio (Portworx Enterprise, Portworx Backup, and Portworx Data Services) can be consumed as a fully managed service by users of Amazon EKS, RedHat OpenShift, and any other Kubernetes services (fully managed or upstream distributions).
The new fully managed service will provide ease of use and faster deployment, enabling DevOps and platform teams to deploy containerized apps into production in seconds instead of weeks or months. Pure Storage offers the service as a no-install, easy-to-use, and easy-to-manage experience to users lacking container storage expertise, making Day 0 and Day 2 operations for Kubernetes data management simple for production workloads.
Improved performance
Portworx Enterprise 3.0 includes new performance and reliability capabilities. PX-Fast improves performance for apps requiring fast ingestion and delivers low latency and high throughput for online transaction processing (OLTP), online analytical processing (OLAP), and machine learning (ML) workloads. The Kubernetes Data Management platform of Portworx provides throughput/IOPS extremely close to the equivalent of writing directly to the high-performing NVMe-based infrastructure, boosting the underlying performance to over one million IOPS. PX-Fast makes Kubernetes data storage appear local to facilitate modern cloud-native apps and data like video-on-demand, VoIP, etc., with a close-to-zero failure rate.
The new Near-Sync DR capability provides zero data loss across data centers and regions, giving customers the next level of business continuity. Portworx Enterprise has always supported disaster recovery capability with zero RPO and fast RTO between two metro region clusters with <10ms latency. However, Near-Sync DR will extend the end-to-end DR solution with <24 sec RPO and a fast RTO between two geographically distant data centers or cloud regions with higher network latencies. Customers can run their tier 1 mission-critical apps leveraging greater resiliency and reliability.
Free Portworx Backup
Portworx has also introduced a free forever tier of Portworx Backup. Teams using the platform can now get started with the fully managed service of Portworx Backup with no feature restrictions and protect up to 1TB of data at no cost. Each backup instance can manage hundreds of Kubernetes clusters. The free, fully managed Portworx Backup can be used indefinitely by any organization looking for an enterprise-grade data protection service to protect their Kubernetes workloads with a few clicks.
