IGEL has announced the launch of IGEL COSMOS, a unified end-user computing platform to securely manage and automate the delivery of digital workspaces from any cloud. The modular architecture comprises separate but equal elements of an endpoint operating system, management and control, and cloud services to introduce or enhance apps, desktops, services, and any other form of cloud-delivered digital workspaces.

The modular architecture comprises separate but equal elements of an endpoint operating system, management and control, and cloud services to introduce or enhance apps, desktops, services, and any other form of cloud-delivered digital workspaces.
At first glance, it looks like COSMOS combines the latest release of IGEL OS and IGEL UMS with their cloud services. Yes, this release coincides with the announcement of IGEL OS and UMS 12, but the new, and most interesting piece of COSMOS is IGEL Cloud Services.
IGEL Cloud Services provides a single portal for the services needed to expand and enhance the experience of IGEL OS devices, users, and managers. Some of the services that it currently provides deal with licensing, applications, onboarding, identity management, and insights.
Key Components
IGEL License Portal (ILP) is used for managing IGEL subscriptions.
IGEL App Portal is a self-service, policy-driven, software repository for IGEL and the IGEL Ready ecosystem applications.
IGEL Onboarding Service allows new users, or users with new devices to configure their IGEL devices by simply entering their username and password.
IGEL Insight Service gathers data from IGEL endpoint devices and then makes recommendations based on that data. These recommendations range from listing outdated apps on the device to listing hardware that needs to be right-sized to meet the requirements of the user, such as a device that can handle the load of Zoom or Teams.
What we like most about COSMOS is that it decouples the endpoint device from being on a corporate network in order to be provisioned and managed. We are looking forward to investigating COSMOS further.
Availability
COSMOS, IGEL UMS 12, and IGEL OS 12 will be available April 1. Existing users of IGEL OS 11 will be able to engage IGEL UMS 12 via an easy migration to access COSMOS advancements for existing and new devices running IGEL OS 12 in the future.
