WD has announced the Western Digital Black 3D NVMe SSD, a high-performing drive that features the company’s own SSD architecture and in-house controller. The drive is designed to accelerate data performance for PC applications including high-resolution video, audio, and gaming content.
The new Western Digital Black 3D drive leverages the M.2 form factor and features a new NVMe architecture and controller, which is optimized for the company’s 3D NAND. Moreover, Western Digital’s indicates that this vertically integrated SSD platform was built from the ground up to maximize performance. It also features advanced power management, durability, and endurance.
Performance-wise, the new Western Digital Black 3D features sequential read up to 3,400 MB/s for 1TB and 500GB model and up to 2,800MB/s for 1TB model sequential writes, which certainly places it in the higher echelon of consumer drives. In random reads, the drive is quoted to deliver up to 500,000 IOPs (1TB model), which is ideal for multi-threaded applications and data-intensive multitasking environments. The drive is backed by a five-year limited warranty with up to 600TBW endurance (1TB model).
