Panasas, a longstanding high-performance computing (HPC) and parallel file system arena provider has unveiled its new brand identity, VDURA, marking a significant shift towards a software-centric business model.
This rebranding represents the company’s transition from a hardware focus to a software subscription-based model, aiming to broaden its technological footprint across AI and HPC applications in various environments, including on-premises, hybrid, and cloud settings.
Under the new brand VDURA, Panasas is leveraging its foundational parallel NAS technology to develop a high-performance data platform that integrates multiple types of storage media within a singular architectural framework.
Ken Claffey, CEO of VDURA, emphasized that while the PANFS software has consistently delivered top-tier performance and reliability, moving away from proprietary hardware will meet the growing demand for performance versatility and cost-effectiveness in today’s market. He outlined the company’s phased transition, beginning with its role as an Avnet Direct Connect partner, and hinted at a forthcoming major public cloud partnership.
VDURA aims to offer organizations unprecedented flexibility in optimizing data infrastructure to address the dynamic requirements of AI and HPC applications. This flexibility is further enhanced by VDURA’s collaboration with Avnet Integrated, allowing customers to acquire cost-effective, pre-configured hardware integrated with VDURA software, simplifying deployment and management.
VDURA’s strategy extends beyond just software flexibility. It introduces a new era of customization and cost-efficiency, where customers can choose from a wide range of hardware platforms and tailor their storage solutions to fit specific workloads. This approach optimizes performance and reduces overall hardware costs by allowing direct purchases from manufacturers.
Historically recognized for pioneering innovations such as the Linux-based parallel file system and file-level erasure coding, Panasas has been a key player in advancing technologies like pNFS. The transition to VDURA preserves its legacy while steering the brand toward a future where software scalability and adaptability define the market’s landscape.
The VDURA data platform distinguishes itself with a genuinely parallel architecture that effectively combines high-performance flash storage with cost-effective HDDs within a single platform. This integration is supported by advanced data protection, automated data placement, and unified management features, ensuring that VDURA meets and exceeds the performance, availability, and ease of use that its clientele, including prominent organizations like NASA and Intel, have come to expect.
