Dell has announced an upgrade to their Precision 7000 Series workstations. This new refresh focuses on delivering higher performance and massive scalability for the most demanding workloads and largest datasets, including enhancements for artificial intelligence and machine learning workloads. Dell’s Precision 7920 tower and Precision 7820 tower will be updated with the new 2nd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors and NVIDIA Quadro RTX graphic options.

This new refresh focuses on delivering higher performance and massive scalability for the most demanding workloads and largest datasets, including enhancements for artificial intelligence and machine learning workloads. Here's a rundown of Dell's announcement:
- Both models will feature Dell Precision Optimizer and will be “Ready for VR.” The Premium version is also available for at an extra cost. This feature uses AI-based technology to configure the workstation based on how it is being used.
- The Dell Precision 7920 rack workstation brings the same performance as the Precision 7920 Tower, but in a secure 2U rack form factor. This Dell rack workstation is designed for OEMs and customers who need to their compute resources and valuable data in a centralized area.
- Configuration options include the recently announced 2nd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors, which features up to 28 cores, 56 threads, and 3TB DDR4 RDIMM per socket, and support for new technologies such as Intel Deep Learning Boost, a new set of Intel AVX-512 instructions. The new refreshed Precision models will include high-performance storage capacity options such as (up to) 120TB/96TB of Enterprise SATA HDD and up to 16TB of super-fast PCIe NVMe SSDs.
Availability
The new Precision 7000 Series workstations are slated for a release this May.
Dell will have "workstation specialists" at both NAB 2019 (Booth #SL8011) and COFES 2019 over the next few days.
