HPE Unveils Advancements for GreenLake; Simplifies Hybrid IT Management

by Harold Fritts

HPE significantly enhances GreenLake, simplifying hybrid IT management, improving storage performance, and accelerating AI adoption.

HPE has unveiled significant enhancements to its GreenLake cloud platform aimed at simplifying hybrid IT management, improving storage performance, and accelerating AI adoption. These changes deliver flexibility while addressing the complexities of managing heterogeneous hybrid IT environments.

HPE VM Essentials: Simplified Virtualized Workload Management

HPE introduced VM Essentials (VME), a unified virtual machine (VM) management solution that offers flexibility and cost efficiency for hybrid environments. This solution integrates existing virtualized workloads with the new HPE VME hypervisor, streamlining management through features like distributed workload placement, high availability, live migration, and integrated data protection.

Customers running HPE VM Essentials will benefit from the following:

  • Reduce costs through its built-in KVM-based hypervisor, cost-effective per-socket pricing, and support for VM-as-a-service provisioning.
  • Simplify operations by enabling integration with existing hypervisor clusters and offering a single interface for managing workloads.
  • Futureproof IT environments with flexible delivery models and an upgrade path to the full Morpheus PlatformOps suite for hybrid cloud governance and cost management.

The solution is supported by HPE’s global ecosystem, with partners like Cohesity and Commvault providing backup and recovery services for VM workloads.

HPE Alletra Storage MP X10000: High-Performance Object Storage

HPE introduced the Alletra Storage MP X10000, an advanced object storage solution designed for exabyte-scale applications. This offering delivers up to six times the performance of competing solutions and simplifies management across block, file, and object storage with its disaggregated architecture.

Key features include:

  • Faster access to object data with independently scalable capacity and performance.
  • Enhanced data protection with massive restore bandwidth and compatibility with S3 interfaces, achieving up to 20x data reduction.
  • Integration with AI applications through direct data paths for memory transfers between GPUs, system memory, and storage, improving bandwidth, latency, and GPU utilization.

The X10000 is optimized for high-speed data lakes and modern data protection workflows and is validated with industry-leading backup vendors such as Commvault and Veeam.

Disconnected Management for Regulated Environments

HPE announced HPE Private Cloud Enterprise Disconnected to support organizations in regulated industries and HPE Alletra Storage MP Disconnected. These air-gapped solutions deliver a cloud experience without an internet connection, ensuring sensitive data remains secure.

HPE’s Partner Ready Vantage program now enables qualified partners to offer sovereign private cloud services powered by HPE GreenLake. These solutions will initially launch in Europe, allowing partners to address local, regional, and industry-specific regulations while earning the HPE Sovereignty competency.

Expanding AI Capabilities with NVIDIA and New Partnerships

HPE is deepening its collaboration with NVIDIA and expanding its Unleash AI program to include six new partners: Codeium, Contextual.AI, Dataiku, IronYun, Securiti, and Writer. These partnerships enable a range of AI use cases, including:

  • AI-powered software development.
  • Advanced retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).
  • Intelligent video analytics.
  • Secure and safe generative AI systems.

Additionally, HPE Private Cloud AI, co-developed with NVIDIA, now supports direct memory access (DMA) transfers between GPU, system memory, and HPE storage. This capability enhances system bandwidth, reduces latency, and improves GPU utilization, making it easier for enterprises to deploy and scale AI workloads.

Supporting Hybrid Cloud and AI Innovation

Fidelma Russo, HPE’s Executive Vice President and CTO for Hybrid Cloud, emphasized the need for a hybrid-by-design approach to unlock the full potential of hybrid cloud and AI. The new advancements mark the most comprehensive HPE GreenLake portfolio to date, supporting virtualized, cloud-native, and AI workloads.
