The Eaton PDI PowerPak 2 EX PDU is a compact, flexible solution designed to meet the evolving demands of mid-range data centers.
Eaton has introduced the PDI PowerPak 2 EX (PP2 EX), a highly adaptable power distribution unit (PDU) engineered to meet the demands of medium, enterprise, and colocation data centers. Designed to handle power ratings from 300 to 625 kVA, the PP2 EX is tailored for environments where efficiency, flexibility, and compactness are paramount.
The unit addresses data centers’ growing complexity and spatial constraints by combining a modular design with a high-power density and advanced monitoring capabilities. These features allow operators to optimize their space while maintaining reliable and efficient power distribution for critical loads.
Eaton PDI PowerPak 2 EX PDU Features
The PP2 EX sets itself apart with its small footprint, making it one of the most compact PDUs available for mid-range applications. Its True Front Access (TFA) design minimizes the need for rear or side clearance, simplifying installation and maintenance while freeing up valuable floor space. Configurable breaker options, solid busbar connections, and universal top/bottom cable entry further enhance its adaptability to various data center layouts. In addition, the Eaton PDU’s compartmentalized electrical components improve safety and accessibility, while its modular construction ensures flexibility in system expansion and customization.
The PP2 EX is highlighted by its ultra-efficient transformer, designed to comply with DOE 2016 energy efficiency standards. The transformer utilizes 240°C-class insulation for extended operational life and features dual electrostatic shielding to attenuate high-frequency noise. This helps contribute to a reliable power system that minimizes energy loss while delivering optimal performance for mission-critical applications.
With multiple configuration options, the Eaton PP2 EX can handle single and dual output voltages, making it compatible with various operational requirements. Additionally, its oversized 200% neutral conductor supports high-current applications, improving reliability and safety.
Eaton has also outfitted the PP2 EX with WaveStar intelligent monitoring, which enables operators to track and manage critical loads in real time. The system provides granular visibility to the individual breaker level via an intuitive color touchscreen interface. For facilities requiring remote monitoring, the PDU supports integration with industry-standard protocols such as Modbus RTU, TCP/IP, BACnet, and SNMP.
Optional compatibility with Eaton’s Power Xpert Meter 3000 and PXR 25 smart circuit breakers allows for advanced analytics and configuration, making the Eaton PDI PowerPak 2 EX PDU a future-proof investment for data centers looking to enhance their operational insights.
