Today Quantum Corp. announced it is expanding its award-winning Quantum F-Series with the new F1000. Like the rest of the rest of the series, the new F1000 is an NVMe storage appliance that leverages software defined architecture. The F1000 series is all about faster performance at lower entry prices. Like the rest of the rest of the series, the new F1000 is an NVMe storage appliance that leverages software defined architecture. The F1000 series is all about faster performance at lower entry prices. The ideal use cases are capturing, editing, and finishing high-definition content, and speeds VFX and CGI render performance by 10x-100x, to develop cutting edge augmented and virtual reality.
There are NVMe and end-to-end NVMe storage arrays out on the market now. However, these arrays tend to be general purpose arrays. Quantum’s F-Series on the other hand is designed specifically for the video and image-based workloads. Whether this is high-definition video used for movie and television production or high-definition image-based workloads such as the data from a satellite feed, a drone, or a car used in the development of new automated driver assistance systems (ADAS) that need high speed processing. As stated, the F1000 will leverage the same software-defined block storage platform that is currently being used in the Quantum F2000.
Customers will be able to deploy the F-Series NVMe systems (F1000 and F2000) in their Quantum StorNext scale-out file storage cluster. Through StorNext, customer can leverage its data management capabilities to move data between NVMe storage pools and other storage pools. The all NVMe storage will bring an obvious performance bump and now there are several workloads that require such performance.
Quantum’s big selling point with the F1000 is the all NVMe for a lower price. It does this through several ways. First it moves workloads from fiber channel networks to less expensive IP-based networks. Unlike the F2000, the F1000 isn’t built for high-availability. It is a 1U server with a single-controller and less CPU. The F1000 is a performance play, that gets organizations faster performance at a lower entry level price.
The F1000 is available in two capacity points: 39 TB and 77 TB. It offers the same connectivity options as the F2000: 32 Gb fiber channel, or iSER / RDMA using 100 Gb Ethernet, and is designed to be deployed as part of a StorNext scale out file storage cluster.
