Packing 334 GB per platter, the F1 achieves its massive 1-terabyte capacity utilizing just 3 discs. Like the Deskstar 7K1000, the series ups the ante with a 32 MB buffer. With a 1.2 million hour MTBF spec, the F1 also represents Samsung’s first foray into the enterprise-class SATA drive market.
SAMSUNG’S NEW ONE TERABYTE HARD DISK DRIVE HAS WORLD’S HIGHEST RECORDING DENSITY WITH THREE DISKS
New York, NY – June 19, 2007 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a worldwide leader in digital consumer electronics and information technology, announces its one terabyte (TB) F1 Series hard disk drive, which features the world’s highest recording density in a 3.5” hard disk drive using only 3 disks. The new Serial ATA 3.5” F1 Series drives are designed to be the ultimate large capacity, low power, high performance solution for enterprise applications, personal video recorders, desktop PCs or external storage. Samsung’s F1 series is being introduced today at the company’s storage press conference in New York City. Samsung’s F1 drives employ a host of proprietary technologies to achieve best-in-class low power consumption, and best-in-class performance that sets a new standard for large capacity drives. Whisper-quiet operation is ensured via Samsung’s award-winning NoiseGuard™ and SilentSeek™ technologies, which reduce overall noise and vibration emanating from the drive. The optimized electronics and power saving modes reduce power consumption and resulting heat dissipation, making the F1 the coolest operating 1TB drive on the market. PMR recording with Samsung’s Flying on Demand (FOD) head technology ensures improved recording stability over changing temperature ranges. Samsung’s cutting edge drive offers a higher predicted reliability versus competitive drives that require five disks to achieve similar capacities. |
