Western Digital Intros USB 3.0 My Book External Drives

Western Digital today announced its fastest-ever My Book external hard drives based on the new USB 3.0 standard. The USB 3.0 interface translates into a 5 Gbps transfer rate, about 4.7x the speed of the current-gen USB 2.0 interface. The new USB 3.0 My Books are backwards compatible with USB 2.0/1.1.

The My Book 3.0 drives are available in 1TB and 2TB capacities and are offered standalone or with a kit that includes a USB 3.0 PCI-e adapter (for desktop computers). The drives come with a two-year limited warranty; the kit versions are priced at $199.99 for the 1TB version and $279.99 for the 2TB version.
