Pretec Announces New SDXC, CF Cards, USB 3.0 Card Reader

Pretec announced a number of new products at Computex Taipei 2010. New offerings include its CFast Hypersonic CF cards (up to 128GB), SDXC 64GB memory cards and a high-speed USB 3.0 card reader.


Pretec announced a number of new products at Computex Taipei 2010. New offerings include its CFast Hypersonic CF cards (up to 128GB), SDXC 64GB memory cards and a high-speed USB 3.0 card reader.

P240 USB 3.0 Multi-Card Reader

Pretec claims the P240 is the world’s first USB 3.0 high-speed multi-card reader. USB 3.0 provides up to a 5.0Gbps connection speed (10x faster than USB 2.0). The P240 supports SDXC, CF, and several other formats.

The P240 will start sampling next month; mass production is schedule for August.

SDXC 64GB and SDHC Waterproof Cards

Pretec introduced SDXC Class 16 64GB cards and an SDHC Waterproof card. These second-generation cards have sustained write speeds over 16MB/s. The SDXC Class 16 cards are available in 32GB – 64GB sizes; the SDHC 233X Class 10 cards will be upgraded to Class 16 and will be available in 8GB – 64GB sizes.

The cards come pre-loaded with a photo recovery tool. A waterproof and ruggedized version of the SDXC/SDHC cards with a metal housing will be available by the third quarter of this year.

The 64GB SDXC/SDHC cards will begin sampling next month.

CFast Hypersonic Series CF Card

Pretec also announced its second generation CFast Hypersonic series CF card. The company cites a sequential 250MB/s read, 110MB/s write. It will be available in capacities of 16GB – 128GB. A ruggedized version is available and features a metal housing.

The CFast cards will begin sampling in June; mass production is scheduled for July 2010.
