OCZ has unveiled its Vertex 2 Pro and Vertex 2 EX Solid State Drives (SSDs) for enterprise use. The 2.5-inch drives use SandForce SF-1500 SSD processors and have MLC or SLC memory.
The Vertex 2 Pro uses MLC memory has transfer rates up to 285MB/s read and 275MB/s write and 4k random writes up to 50,000 IOPS. The Vertex 2 EX uses SLC memory, which has ten times more program/erase cycles than the Pro’s MLC memory. OCZ plans to make a SAS-equipped version available.
Both the Vertex 2 Pro and EX feature enterprise-grade features such as a built-in supercapacitor that acts as a temporary power supply in the event of a power outage. OCZ says the drives also have better ECC protection and recovery features that mimic RAID-like protection from flash block failures on a single drive.
The drives also have intelligent block management and wear-leveling. Data on the drives is stored in AES-128 encrypted format for security.
The OCZ Vertex Pro will be available in 50-400GB capacities and the EX 50-200GB. Both carry a three-year warranty. Pricing and availability information has not been announced.
