QNAP Announces New 8-Drive Turbo NAS

QNAP has announced its latest business network storage solution, the TS-859 Pro+ Turbo NAS with eight drive bays. The unit’s Intel Atom D525 dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM help it achieve a claimed 116MB/s transfer rate. It can hold a maximum of 16TB of storage (8x 2TB drives).
The TS-859 Pro+ has anumber of certifications:

  • NFS and iSCSI datastore with fully VMware Ready, Citrix Ready and Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V clusters compliant
  • iSCSI support for server clustering and virtualized environments including support for MC/S, MPIO, SPC-3, and thin provisioning

Network storage can be virtually expanded thanks to the iSCSI initiator and target service; up to eight virtual volumes per device can be added.
The TS-859 Pro+ supports 2.5- and 3.5-inch hard drives housed in lockable, hot-swappable carriers, RAID 0/1/5/6/5+ hot spare/6+ hot spare with online RAID capacity expansion/level migration/recovery.

The TS-859 Pro+ is available starting this month. It comes with V3.3 of QNAP’s NAS management software embedded as firmware.

Verbatim MediaShare Mini Network Storage Connector

Verbatim’s new MediaShare Mini is a networking solution that makes any USB drive accessible over a network. The device connects to the home network via the included Ethernet cable connected to the router. It has a browser-based interface for easy navigation. The devices can also be accessed remotely via the Internet or a smartphone.

Up to four drives can be connected to the MediaShare Mini. It comes with a three-year limited warranty and is available now for MSRP $89.99.
