Seagate introduced the industry’s first 2.5-inch Enterprise-class hard drive with a 1TB capacity, the Constellation.2. The drive will be offered with 6Gb/s SATA or 6Gb/s SAS connections and as a Self-Encrypting Drive (SED).

Seagate says the second-generation Constellation features improved data integrity with the new T10 Protection Information standard and increased reliability (1.4 million hours MTBF). Power efficiency has also been improved; Seagate says the Constellation.2 consumes 3.9 watts at idle.
Other drive specifications include a 15mm height, 7200RPM spindle speed and 64MB cache.

The Seagate Constellation.2 carries a five-year warranty and is currently shipping to OEMs worldwide. They will initially be offered in Dell’s PowerEdge servers and PowerVault storage enclosures; Dell expects to ship products with the new drives starting in late December.
