We spent a few minutes playing with the drives and they’re very well done. Plus, there’s just something cool about sliding a USB drive or SSD inside a tiny pocket knife. Victorinox has done especially well with the SSD model, giving it a dual USB/eSATA interface and e-ink display with drive details. The highlights of each drive are below, we’ll have reviews in the coming weeks.
Victorinox Slim and Victorinox Slim Duo
The Slim and Slim Duo combine portable and removable USB drives with the classic pocket knife functions like blades, nail file, LED light, pen and scissors. There’s also a flight-friendly version which forgoes the blades. The knives are waterproof, shock resistant, and available in red, blue, orange, pink, green and silver. The Slim comes in capacities up to 64GB, the Duo 128GB.
Victorinox Secure SSD
Victorinox calls the Secure SSD the world’s smallest 265GB SSD. Whether or not that’s true, the device is very cool, offering a 9×48 pixel e-ink display that can show documents information, drive information, folder structures, backup information and other data. While the drive will mostly likely be used over USB 2, there is an eSATA adaptor that will let the drive work at speeds up to 100MB/s read and 35MB/s write.
Of course the Secure SSD includes a knife and nail file with screwdriver and comes in capacities of 64GB, 128GB and 256GB.
