Drobo introduced new storage products designed for business use including primary and secondary storage, offsite backup, and server virtualization deployments. The products add improved ease of use, software, and support options over the company’s existing products.
The announced products include:
- 8-bay file sharing Drobo with remote backup (Available now)
- 8-bay SAN (iSCSI-attached) Drobo (Available now)
- 12-bay SAN (iSCSI-attached) Drobo with expanded redundancy features, support for thin provisioning and deprovisioning and new data-aware tiering technology (Reserve now, shipping Q2-11)
Drobo also said it improved performance with these latest products. The systems are based on BeyondRAID, which allows for advanced automated thin provisioning, hot swapping, and moving between chassis. Both SAS and SATA drives up to 3TB are supported, including SSDs which can be further utilized to improve performance.
The company is emphasizing ease of use with these latest products. Indicator lights on the chassis indicate whether the drive is good, has failed, should have a drive added, and whether or not the drive should be removed.
Ease of use is also promoted through the new software business dashboard, which is tailored to the needs of small businesses.
