Ford Motors has announced owners of its upcoming electric vehicles, including the Focus Electric, will have the ability to remotely manage some aspects of their vehicles over the AT&T wireless network.

The Ford Focus Electric is the company’s first all-electric passenger car; it will begin production late 2011. Owners can send and receive data about their car using the MyFord Mobile smartphone app. The smartphone will communicate with a highly secure cloud server via the AT&T wireless network. The cloud servers store information transmitted by the embedded wireless module in the Ford Focus Electric. The app allows owners to plan trips, monitor the vehicles’s state of charge, and receive alerts for charging.
