OWC Upgrades Portable External Drive with New Chipset

Other World Computing has updated its “quad interface” Mercury Elite Pro mini portable storage device with a new Oxford 944SE chipset. OWC says the Oxford chipset offers better data transfer performance, reduced power consumption, and reduced heat. The Mercury Elite Pro mini portable storage device is bus powered and has four interfaces to choose from: FireWire 400/800, USB 2.0, and eSATA. Currently there is no support for USB 3.0. The drive is designed for both PC and Mac users.

The drive is offered with a variety of internal hard drives, from a 250GB 5400RPM drive for $99.99 to a 750GB 7200RPM high performance drive for $174.99. Additionally the company offers the drive with SSDs built in, starting at $209.99 for a 60GB SSD and topping out at a 480GB SSD for $969.99.
