Over the weekend, Intel announced on their discussion forums they were in the process of validating a firmware update to patch the SSD 320 from the "Bad Context 13x Error" which had plagued certain users. This issue mostly surrounded power cycling the drive, where under certain conditions the drive would report as having a capacity of 8MB.

In the mean time, Intel does suggest a few items for users with an SSD 320 in their system:

  • As with any storage device, backup your data regularly
  • When shutting down your system, follow your system’s standard shutdown process
  • Minimize unplugging the SSD while your system is powered

While the bottom two tips are good pointers for this specific problem, the first one is very important regardless of what SSD or hard drive you own. Backups can range from copying files from one folder to another on a different drive to cloning your entire boot drive to a secondary drive for easy recovery. Both methods help to protect your information in the event of a hardware failure.
