At this time it’s hard to know just how badly the flooding will impact WD. Their facilities are operational, but production has been suspended during this crisis. In the quarter ending July 1 of this year, WD shipped 54 million drives. With 60% made in their Thailand facilities, WD could fall behind by potentially several million hard drives this quarter while the flooding is dealt with and normalcy returns to the area.
If there is a silver lining it’s that the company’s approximately 37,000 Thailand-based employees are deemed safe at this time.
