Quantum has announced two new products including the NDX-8 NAS appliance and the RDX 8000 removable disk library, both with 8TB of storage.

The NDX-8d comes pre-installed with Quantum Datastor Shield backup software; it does not require an agent installed on clients to provide backup protection. Additionally the NDX-8d features entry-level data deduplication. The data is deduplicated on the client to save network bandwidth. The NDX-8d features a 3.3GHz Intel Core i3 processor and 4GB of RAM. It runs the Windows Storage Server operating system and takes 1U of rack space.

Quantum also announced the RDX 8000, an 8-slot RDX cartridge disk library. It can be used in conjunction with the NDX-8d for offsite backup. The device is also available with the Quantum Datastor Shield deduplication software. RDX cartridges are available in 160GB – 1TB capacities; the RDX 8000 supports up to 8TB of native capacity (8x 1TB cartridges). 1.5TB cartridges are expected to be available in 2012, bringing the total possible capacity up to 12TB.

Pricing and Availability

The NDX-8d appliance with the data deduplication software is $5,139 ($4,029 without). The RDX 8000 with the data deduplication software is $4,999 ($3,889 without). Both products are available now from Quantum’s worldwide distribution channels.
