Synology America Corp. has announced the release of two new rack-mountable NAS models, the RackStation RS212 and the scalable RS812. The RS812 is the successor to the 1U RS411; the main difference is that the new model can quickly scale out to eight drives by attaching the RX410 expansion module. This will enable businesses to purchase the required capacity upfront only, with the ability to be scaled as need.

The RS212–the other new model–uses a new RackStation design (1U NAS) and is Synology’s first server designed to fit in a 2-post rack 2-bay. Its robust design allows customers to reduce cooling costs as it can operate in environments ranging from 0 to 45 Celsius. The two new rack-mountable NAS devices use Synology’s DiskStation Manager (DSM) 3.2, which offers compatibility with lightweight LDAP domains and also the ability to act as an LDAP server if need be.
