Cray’s new storage system will be a vital part of the recently announced Blue Waters supercomputer located at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) on the University of Illinois campus and will be “one of the most productive file systems for sustained science applications performance."

Cray Sonexion systems are built using three major components: high performance Scalable Storage Units, a Metadata Management Unit, and network-ready cabinets that include InfiniBand switch connectivity. It is designed for easy configuration and is upgradeable as users’ storage and performance needs increase over time. Cray has stated that it will support Sonexion 1300 systems for clients on both Cray and non-Cray computer systems.

Pricing and Availability

Available now, the Cray Sonexion 1300 system pricing starts at less than $250,000.
