by storagereview

Plextor announced a new line of solid state drives, the M3S. The M3S weighs in at 2.5” with a bracket to adapt to 3.5”, comes with a 5 year warranty, and comes in a variety of capacities: 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB. The new line also boasts sequential read/write speeds of up to 525MB/s read and 445MB/s write, and random read/write speeds of up to 70,000/65,000 IOPS using a Marvell controller and 24nm Toshiba NAND.

Much like one of Plextor’s recently released PX-M2P, the M3S includes their new TrueSpeed feature, which is designed to prevent drops in read/write speeds which occur in SSDs as a result of heavily fragmented data or prolonged use. We looked at the performance of this feature in our PX-M2P review earlier this month. Other features are ones you would expect from an industry leader like Plextor; the M3S uses SATA III, has a 1.8 volt power mode, and comes with the company’s excellent data management software.

The new line is designed for power users and provides high efficiency and excellent performance. The M3S 128 and 256GB models will hit store shelves this month for around $200 and $350, respectively. The 512GB model can be expected early next year for about $700.
