Cloud storage company, Box, has announced three new easy-to-use security features for administrators and users: Smart Links, Trusted Access, and Groups AD.

Smart Links

Box’s shared links option will soon have smart security options, which will allow users to limit who is able to view a file or folder. Editors can set the option on individual files whiles owners can also set it for an entire folder.

The following options will be available:

  • Open, which makes content available to anyone with the link
  • Company, which enables links only for members of the user’s company (users with the same email domain, such as @yourcompany.com)
  • Collaborators Only, which restrict link access collaborators only in that folder
  • Disabled, which disable links completely

Account administrators can also set which options are available to an entire enterprise. The shared links feature will be live within the next few weeks.

Trusted Access

Box is also extending the Trusted Access feature that was released at BoxWorks in September, which will give control and visibility around logins with mobile devices, Box Sync, and logins from partner apps. Users will have the ability to view and manage their own logins while enterprise administrators will be able to limit the number of each type of application a user can access. This feature will also allow administrators to limit where their users access company data. When that limit has been reached, the user is required to remove existing devices from his list of Trusted Access applications before logging in from a new device.

Groups AD

Box’s new integration with user’s Active Directory (AD) groups can help make the management of an ever-growing list of users and access privileges much easier. Users will be able to automatically populate their group memberships from AD to Box, which includes creating new groups in Box from AD and adding and removing users from existing groups. To enable this feature, users can contact the Box technical support.
Box has also announced the availability of Intel Cloud Access 360, which allows customers to integrate their AD and Single Sign-On (SSO) with Box. Intel joins Ping Identity (PingFederate), Citrix (NetScaler Cloud Gateway) Okta, OneLogin, VMware (VMware Horizon App Manager) and Simplified in supporting SSO on Box.
