Lenovo’s newly announced portfolio of SMB laptops also include some new storage hardware in addition to its business technology and personal lifestyle computing features. With hard drive options reaching capacities up to 1TB and faster storage connections like Thunderbolt being offered, this next generation of notebooks is starting to look very interesting.
The ThinkPad Edge S430 is equipped with a hard drive of up to 1 TB of storage (i.e. the Samsung Spinpoint M8 1TB and the Western Digital Scorpio Blue 1TB) and uses Thunderbolt technology developed by Intel.
At 10 Gbps, Thunderbolt is one of the fastest ways to transfer data between a PC and peripheral and display devices. Its technology delivers great responsiveness with data and display transfers—in each direction, at the same time—using a single cable to connect devices in a daisy chain. Users can transfer a full-length HD movie in less than 30 seconds and backup a year of continuous MP3 playback in just over 10 minutes. MacBook Pro and MacBook Air were the first to use the Thunderbolt connection technology and devices like LaCie’s Little Big Disk decided to take advantage of the speedy transfer rates with its dual ports soon after.
The new ThinkPad Edge 14-inch E430 and 15-inch E530 laptops are very fast to boot up and can also have up to 1 TB of storage, which can be combined with solid state drive storage.
