Fusion-io Breaks One Billion IOPS Mark with ioDrive2 Array

Fusion-io has announced that it achieved one billion IOPS during a technology demonstration conducted at DEMO Enterprise: An Evening of Innovation. The purpose of the demonstration was to preview an extension to the ioMemory architecture called Auto Commit Memory, which significantly reduces latency and system overhead in transferring data. Fusion-io used eight HP ProLiant DL370 servers equipped with eight ioDrive2 Duos to reach the one billion IOP barrier when transferring 64 byte data packets.

Auto Commit Memory leverages the architecture of ioMemory to reliably deliver data at peak performance levels. Even if power is unexpectedly shut down, data integrity is assured by the ioMemory architecture’s ability to flush all in-flight data; it doesn’t need super capacitors or batteries. The Auto Commit Memory extension introduces a fundamentally new method for designing new modern data systems and provides developers with new semantics to directly control the datapath to persistent memory. It also offers a platform with new programming primitives that provides system and application developers direct access to non-volatile memory.
