New Firmware For Seagate GoFlex Satellite Released

by Kevin OBrien

Seagate released new firmware for the GoFlex Satellite, offering improvements across the board in everything ranging from improved battery life to pass-through internet capabilities. The new firmware also lifted a software-limit on the amount of users that can connect to the device at any one time, allowing a total of eight to stream media off of it. For most users though the increase in battery life, going from 5 to 7 hours will be the biggest improvement, since it has an impact on its most basic everyday usage.

Updating the firmware on the Seagate GoFlex Satellite is a simple process and requires no additional software to be installed on the host system. To update the software, you simply download the latest firmware file from the Seagate Support website, drop it onto the root directory of the GoFlex Satellite when it is connected over USB, unplugged it when the transfer is complete, and then turn it back on and wait. After a few minutes when the wireless access point is back up, the update is finished.

The update can be found here and is publicly available now.
