The new Dell EMC “HPC (High Performance Computing)” Ready Architectures for AI and Data Analytics are built on Dell’s PowerEdge servers using NVIDIA GPUs. Isilon scale-out NAS (Network Attached Storage) provides most of the storage needed by the architectures. Isilon NAS comes in two flavors. The A200 is intended for active archive storage. In contrast, the A2000 is designed for deep archive storage that is accessed infrequently.
Dell also announced two new validated architectures today. These architectures are more focused on data analytics, and so don’t have to make the same tradeoffs that the hybrid AI/Data Analytics architectures do. The first is designed to run Apache Spark on Kubernetes workloads. Apache Spark is an open-source distributed general-purpose cluster-computing framework initially developed at Berkeley. The second new reference architecture is designed to run Splunk’s enterprise software for monitoring and analyzing very large datasets. Like most of Dell’s reference architectures, they’re based around Dell EMC’s PowerEdge servers.
