StorSimple has announced their new extended family of cloud-integrated enterprise storage appliances, including the StorSimple 5020, 5520, 7020, and 7520 with their latest software version 2.0. With the newest software, the appliances support larger enterprise workloads as well as an increased storage capacity up to 100TB of local storage. Leveraging these new capabilities, the StorSimple appliances allow customers to lower storage TCO by 60 to 80 percent and continue to grow cloud-integrated enterprise storage to mainstream areas.

Cloud-integrated storage is an emerging area where businesses tie together primary, archive, backup and disaster recovery data through a seamless integration with the cloud. The primary goal of bringing all of these items together is increasing making it easier to work with the data, as well as improving performance and increasing reliability while at the same time reducing primary and data protection costs.
The second generation StorSimple devices offering up to 100TB of local storage leverage higher capacity controllers with NVRAM support. The software optimizations also offer significantly improved performance over previous versions utilizing SAS enterprise SSDs. StorSimple also offers impressive application data recovery speeds from cloud storage. Using a single appliance, users can restore up to 100TB of data per day with a 50Mbps link, compared to traditional cloud-based solutions that would take 90 days to restore that same amount over a 100Mbps connection.
The StorSimple appliances aim to improve cloud resiliency and vendor diversification by supporting different cloud providers or regional locations. This lets businesses spread out primary and backup data over different geographical locations or services using a simple appliance with the CloudClone feature. The cloud providers supported include Google, HP, Rackspace, as well as Amazon’s Reduced Redundancy Storage. The StorSimple platform supports enterprise-level operation and management capabilities, including non-disruptive system software upgrades from version 1.0 to 2.0.
