Today, HiveIO announced that they were now offering a Desktop as a Service (DaaS) solution. A Desktop as a Service (DaaS) solution provides virtual desktops through the cloud in much the same way a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) or thin-client does using on-premise servers. HiveIO was founded in 2015, and prior to this has focused on VDI solutions.

HiveIO’s built their new Desktop as a Service (DaaS) solution out of their existing VDI software. Aurora Cloud Technologies is providing cloud infrastructure for the service. Aurora Cloud Technologies shares its name with several other companies, but the one HiveIO partnered with provides private and hybrid cloud services. Aurora Cloud Technologies is providing customers of HiveIO’s new DaaS with a SAE16 Type 2 certified data center and 24×7 hardware support and desktop management. Customers will be able to administer their solutions themselves, as well.
HiveIO’s DaaS is well suited for any company that needs to enable their employees to work from home, but doesn’t have the IT staff or existing servers to support such a transition. With so many companies needing to suddenly send their employees home to protect them from the COVID-19 virus sweeping across the world, this service would have been in high demand, last month. Unfortunately for HiveIO, most companies have already settled on a solution to allow employees to work from home. While normally managing a release like this in only a month would be amazingly fast, in this situation, it may not have been fast enough.
