Lenovo ThinkVision P32u-10 Design and Build
Lenovo’s iconic design aesthetic is consistent across nearly its entire portfolio. The ThinkVision P32u-10 is recognizable as such sporting the sleek black design with curated pops of red. The look and feel are reminiscent of the brand’s flagship line of ThinkPad laptops. Meaning it is undoubtedly sturdy and solidly built.
Configuration options are outstanding. The stand offers full-motion lift, tilt, and swivel including the ability to orientate the monitor in a vertical portrait view. The display itself caters to the needs of various professionals with multiple color spaces and a wide range of color gamut presets. Additionally, with ThinkColor software, you can easily select and edit colors for various scenarios, choose between multiple color spaces, and tune the color with real-time preview.
Connectivity is effortless. The Thunderbolt 3 port enables a one-cable connection to any peripherals you need. In addition to being a one-stop shop for data, video, and power delivery this also enables you to daisy chain monitors together and drive multiple displays from a single cable connected to your PC. All other expected connectivity options are present as well. The P32u-10 also features a quad-port USB-A hub, dual HDMI 2.0, and a DisplayPort.
Details creative professionals will be most interested in are the ThinkVision P32u-10’s support for 10-bit color depth, 99.5% Adobe RGB color space, and factory-calibrated color accuracy. In our use the monitor offered vivid color rendering, with black levels that left a bit to be desired. Some of this is the tradeoff of using an IPS panel, where rich black levels won’t be as great as other panel technologies. The only real downside we noticed with one of monitor samples were a couple of subtle pressure points along the border that caused some mild bright spots in a dark background.
Lenovo ThinkVision P32u-10 Usability
With the design of the P32u-10 being much like the P27u-10 we had some of the same qualms with usability, albeit minor. While the side ports have flush access, the ports on the back panel are somewhat recessed, which makes it a bit difficult when plugging cords in. This could be a potential source of frustration for users who have to access the back panel ports often. We found the solution to this difficulty to be simply rotating the display 90 degrees to portrait mode to make the ports much more accessible. However, this method is not viable for all workstation setups. So, this monitor doesn’t quite get top marks for ease of setup.
Information on Lenovo’s ThinkColor software isn’t exactly easy to find. The user guide for the monitor does detail the On-Screen Display (OSD) controls well though and exploring the menu in person is fairly intuitive. Among the various sub-menus, you will be able to find standard adjustments like input, screen language, brightness, etc. The most important section of the OSD menu is the Advanced Setup. Advanced Setup is where you will find controls for Color, Scenario Modes, and PIP/PBP which are the big draws for those interested in the P32-10 for color-centric uses and multi-tasking.
Inside the color menu, you will find options for AdobeRGB, sRGB D50, sRGB, DCI-P3 D65, DCI-P3 D63, BT.709, BT.2020, Neutral, Reddish, Bluish, as well as a Customer with red adjust bar, green adjust bar, and blue adjust bar. In Scenario Modes options include Panel Native, Image Creation, Image Preview, Digital Cinema, Professional Image, Video Creation, UHD Video, and Low Blue Light.
Conclusion
Overall, the Lenovo ThinkVision P32u-10 is a monitor that fits into the niche of high-end productivity. Key features include its wide 32-inch form factor, 4K resolution, Thunderbolt 3 connectivity, 10-bit color depth, and 99.5% Adobe RGB support. This wide near-edgeless display is comfortable to use and well suited for a wide range of users. Additionally, on-screen display management is intuitive and manages everything from simple to complex functions. With that said, this premium monitor does come with a premium price tag.
