Updated Hitachi Content Platform Enhances Scalability and Efficiency

The Hitachi Content Platform (HCP) is Hitachi’s enterprise-class storage platform for storing and managing block, file and object data. Today, Hitachi has announced enhancements for managing unstructured data growth, maintaining content security in shared storage environments, and streamlining traditional, cloud computing and distributed data storage environments.


The Hitachi Content Platform (HCP) is Hitachi’s enterprise-class storage platform for storing and managing block, file and object data. Today, Hitachi has announced enhancements for managing unstructured data growth, maintaining content security in shared storage environments, and streamlining traditional, cloud computing and distributed data storage environments.  

Hitachi’s Data Ingestor (HDI) also benefits from these updates. Together, HCP and the HDI are meant to provide application independence and lifecycle management capabilities to control of unstructured data with access, search, retention, consolidation and archiving capabilities. Together, HCP and HDI offer replication, automatic failover, erasure coding, nondisruptive hardware and software upgrades, and monitoring and reporting of system health and performance issues.

  • Now supports up to 1,000 tenants and 10,000 namespaces for enterprise or service providers
  • Multi-Protocol access with REST/http, NFS, CIFS, WebDAV, SMTP and Symantec Enterprise Vault Streame

  • New support for spin-down disk in Hitachi Unified Storage (HUS) minimizes power and cooling costs
  • Support for tape-based copies of objects help meet vaulting requirements
  • New metadata query tool searches system and custom metadata to look for trends and relationships

Hitachi Content Platform is a virtualized object storage solution that uses a new method to store data as self-described objects, which allows storage management and policies to be managed at a very granular level. With massive scale, multiple storage tiers, interoperability, secure multitenancy and configurable attributes for each tenant, customers can support a range of applications on a single cluster without creating silos. HCP is designed to work in conjunction with HDI, a bottomless, backup-free cloud on-ramp and file serving solution that sends data from the edge to the core infrastructure.

  • 4x increase in deduplication performance over previous options
  • Fast access to designated or active files by keeping local copies
  • VMware appliance support provides a lower cost alternative to meet high availability requirements with less infrastructure

Hitachi Data Ingestor can be operated in three modes: dual node configuration with SAN-attached storage, single node configuration with internal direct-attached storage (DAS), or a VMware appliance configuration, supported on the VMware vSphere Hypervisor (ESXi). Content can be distributed to HDI and “pinned” to a remote location, ensuring local access performance to a consistent set of data and reducing bandwidth consumption and costs. In addition, HDI offers high availability configurations to ensure continuous operation for service provider customers or remote and branch offices in distributed private IT environments.
