Synology has announced the public release of DiskStation Manager (DSM) 4.1 beta with feature and tool enhancements and with improved functionality. This version of DSM features a new Video Station package that offers video cataloguing, USB tuner support for live and recorded television viewing, and support for iOS management and streaming.

This version of DSM features a new Video Station package that offers video cataloguing, USB tuner support for live and recorded television viewing, and support for iOS management and streaming.
DSM 4.1’s Cloud Station package now allows designating up to 2 shared folders for synchronizing files with broad groups of users. The updated Cloud Station also offers HTTPS encryption for security in transmission, but still does not require port forwarding for full functionality.
DSM 4.1 beta offers a number of other enhancements:
- VAAI certification for improved performance with VMware
- Bandwidth control by user by protocol
- Improved logging and IOPS monitoring for historical and real-time statistics
- Support for NTLMv2 and Kerberos v5 for enhanced ADS security
- Shared Folder Sync now allows synching many DiskStations to one for centralized backups
- Personal Audio Station allows for individual music libraries and playlists on the same DiskStation
- DS photo+, DS finder, and DS audio are released for Windows Phone 7
- Improved thumbnail generation speed

Synology DSM 4.1 beta is free to download for users who own a DiskStation or RackStation x09 series and onward.
