Starboard Storage Systems today announced the introduction of the Starboard Storage AC45, intended for Small and Medium Enterprise (SMEs) IT professionals. Newly announced AC72 models feature up to 33% greater capacity and 100% more read and write SSD cache.
Starboard Storage’s MAST architecture offers hybrid storage systems which virtualize SSD resources for performance, deliver a single pool of storage resources, and support protocols including CIFS, NFS, Fibre Channel, and iSCSI. The new AC45 comes standard with the SSD Accelerator Tier, 12TB of storage capacity and built-in 1Gb networking.
The AC45 supports SAN and NAS, and customers can upgrade networking to 10Gb Ethernet or 8Gb fibre channel. Maximum capacity is 78TB. Depending on the AC72 model, capacity can be expanded to over half a petabyte. The AC45 supports 7200 RPM NL-SAS drives. The AC72 supports both 7200 RPM NL-SAS and 15K SAS.
With the AC Series there is no RAID group setup or management, meta-LUN management, protocol layering, system re-boots, or manual data layout. Capacity can be expanded on-the-fly with automatic load balancing across new SSDs and hard drives as they are added. Drive speeds and capacities can be mixed and matched.
