HP has announced that its HP3PAR 10000 Storage platform now supports all-SSD configurations with up to 512 SSDs per array. HP also expects to announce the availability of automated data mobility between its 3PAR P10000 Storage and HP’s ProLiant server platform in the near future.
HP has announced that its HP3PAR 10000 Storage platform now supports all-SSD configurations with up to 512 SSDs per array. HP also expects to announce the availability of automated data mobility between its 3PAR P10000 Storage and HP’s ProLiant server platform in the near future.
According to HP benchmarks, switching from an all-fibre channel 3PAR P10000 V800 solution to an equivalent all-SSD solution reduces client cost per input/output operations per second by 70 percent and reduces the cost per kilowatt hour by more than 80 percent. HP 3PAR P10000 systems also allow clients to use SSDs in combination with fibre channel drives via 3PAR Adaptive Optimization, which enables autonomic storage tiering.
Two HP 3PAR Gen4 ASICs inside every controller node can drive thin conversion to reduce legacy storage capacity requirements and reclaim allocated-but-unused capacity with optional 3PAR Thin Provisioning Software. The new solution is also compatible with HP’s 3PAR Virtual Copy Software, a reservationless, copy-on-write thin technology, to reduce the capacity requirements of disk-based snapshots and create virtual copies that can be mounted and used instantly.
Integration with ProLiant Gen8
New Smart Cache software for HP ProLiant Gen8 (Review) servers will soon be available with functionality that utilizes SSDs for caching to accelerate workload performance. The solution will use HP Smart Analytics to assign frequently-accessed “hot data” to SSD storage. When used with 3PAR P10000 Storage, Smart Cache will autonomically copy data from 3PAR Storage arrays to SSD cache on ProLiant Gen8 servers.
Availability
All-SSD HP 3PAR P10000 solutions are now available, starting at $350,000.
