Eaton has announced a new 5P UPS power management and battery backup solution for network closets and small data centers. 5P models range from 1,500 VA (1,440 watts) to 3,000 VA (2,700 watts) and offer integration with virtualized environments via Eaton’s Intelligent Power Software Suite.

The Intelligent Power Software Suite is included with the 5P and is compatible with VMware’s vCenter Server and virtualization platforms including Citrix XenServer, Microsoft SCVMM, Red Hat and other Xen open source platforms. The 5P UPS can coordinate live migration of virtual machines (VMs) to unaffected infrastructure during power disruptions in addition to providing standard UPS features for graceful shutdown of computers, VMs and servers during extended power outages.

The Eaton Intelligent Power Software Suite also provides remote metering and power hardware management functions. A graphical LCD interface offers local access to UPS power usage, efficiency and load information. According to Eaton, the 5P UPS’s ABM technology increases battery life by 50 percent, a claim Eaton backs with a three-year warranty.

Availability
The Eaton 5P UPS is available in North America starting at $746.
