Virident Systems has announced FlashMAX II, its second generation PCIe solid-state drive for enterprise environments. Virident is backed by investors Intel and Cisco, and aims to compete with established players like Fusion-io by providing the highest capacity in a low-profile form factor and twice the performance density as its nearest competition.
Virident Systems has announced FlashMAX II, its second generation PCIe solid-state drive for enterprise environments. Virident is backed by investors Intel and Cisco, and aims to compete with established players like Fusion-io by providing the highest capacity in a low-profile form factor and twice the performance density as its nearest competition.
Virident focuses on implementing storage-class memory (SCM) solutions within the server via low-profile PCIe hardware and its vFAS (Virident Flash management with Adaptive Scheduler) software, which virtualizes underlying flash memory. Virident’s SCM architecture has been designed to integrate with SLC and MLC memory and in capacities from 550 gigabytes to 2.2 terabytes.
vFAS powers Virident’s flash-aware RAID, which distributes flash modules across RAID groups and allows the use of all device memory as a single host volume on the server. vFAS also provides global and local wear leveling and support for VMware ESXi and VDI environments. According to Virident, the FlashMAX II will operate at twice the performance density and twice the streaming read performance of their nearest competitor.
Availability
The FlashMAX II starts at $6,000 and will be available in September, 2012.
