IBM has announced the zEnterprise EC12 mainframe server, which offers over 100 configurable cores, with 25% more performance per core and 50% more total capacity than its predecessor. IBM has enhanced the zEC12 to demonstrate the performance of mainframe technology across applications like hybrid cloud infrastructure, high-volume transaction processing, and analytics.
IBM has announced the zEnterprise EC12 mainframe server, which offers over 100 configurable cores, with 25% more performance per core and 50% more total capacity than its predecessor. IBM has enhanced the zEC12 to demonstrate the performance of mainframe technology across applications like hybrid cloud infrastructure, high-volume transaction processing, and analytics.
zEC12 is the first general-purpose IBM server to incorporate transactional memory technology, and the only commercial server to date to achieve Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level 5+ security classification. zEC12 includes a Crypto Express4S cryptographic co-processor and other new IBM cryptographic technology. IBM z/OS V1.12 was awarded Common Criteria at EAL4+, while PR/SM and z/OS V1.12 RACF achieved EAL5+ Common Criteria evaluation.
Support for the IBM DB2 Analytics Accelerator that incorporates the Netezza data warehouse appliance enables clients to run business analytics and operational analytics on the same platform. zEC12 also offers zAware IT systems analytics with technology from IBM Research, which analyzes system messages to provide a near real-time view of the system’s health.
The mainframe’s virtualization capabilities are designed to support private cloud environments, where clients can consolidate thousands of distributed systems to zEC12. zEC12 is the first IBM mainframe to include internal solid state technology with Flash Express. Also a first for its product line, clients can deploy zEC12 with overhead power and cabling rather than a raised datacenter floor.
The IBM zEnterprise System and the IBM zEnterprise BladeCenter Extension (zBX) allow enterprises to deploy and integrate workloads across mainframe, POWER7 and System x servers. IBM is introducing the zBX Model 003, designed to run with zEC12, that includes specialty processors for specific workloads such as the IBM WebSphere DataPower Integration Appliance XI50 for zEnterprise and select IBM BladeCenter servers.
Smarter Cities
IBM also announced it is growing its portfolio of System z industry-focused including the IBM Intelligent Operations Center for Smarter Cities, IBM Health Plan Integration Hub, two IBM Smarter Analytics: Anti-Fraud, Waste and Abuse Solutions (for healthcare and for insurance) and the IBM Genelco Insurance Administration Solution. To help clients build design and deploy cloud infrastructure with zEC12, IBM is offering new implementation services for Linux-based clouds on the mainframe in addition to zEC12 setup and migration services.
