OCZ Releases VXL 1.2 Flash Caching Software with Distributed Resource Sharing and High Availability

OCZ has released version 1.2 of its VXL cache and virtualization software, an update which enables host-based distributed flash volumes with high availability and fault tolerance. VXL 1.2 can power SAN-less infrastructures where flash data is synchronously mirrored between OCZ Z-Drive R4 PCIe cards on redundant cluster servers to make host-based flash continuously available across virtualized clusters.


OCZ has released version 1.2 of its VXL cache and virtualization software, an update which enables host-based distributed flash volumes with high availability and fault tolerance. VXL 1.2 can power SAN-less infrastructures where flash data is synchronously mirrored between OCZ Z-Drive R4 PCIe cards on redundant cluster servers to make host-based flash continuously available across virtualized clusters.


VXL Architecture

VXL 1.2 enables Z-Drive R4 PCIe SSD flash volumes to be virtualized to support distribution of all unallocated flash as a dynamic cache resource regardless of how many VMs are running concurrently. Z-Drive R4 PCIe SSDs under VXL management can provide high availability and fault tolerance from within the virtualization host without the need for back-end SAN or storage appliances. This approach prevents data loss and VM downtime during server failures.

VXL does not require guest agents or special drivers within the application VM and works with any operating system supported by a virtualization hypervisor. VXL 1.2 supports dynamic VM migration from one server to another including VMware vMotion without the loss of cache.

Availability

VXL 1.2 is now available. VXL software customers with support agreements will be offered the upgrade.
