LSI Corporation today introduced Syncro, a new storage architecture designed to bridge DAS single-server storage and traditional external storage in order to provide storage sharing and scaling capabilities for multi-server environments. The announcement also marks manufacturer availability of the first Syncro device, the MX-B rack boot appliance.
LSI Corporation today introduced Syncro, a new storage architecture designed to bridge DAS single-server storage and traditional external storage in order to provide storage sharing and scaling capabilities for multi-server environments. The announcement also marks manufacturer availability of the first Syncro device, the MX-B rack boot appliance.
The Syncro architecture will serve as the foundation for a series of new products across two product families: Syncro CS and Syncro MX. Syncro CS features redundant, shared-node storage for enterprise DAS environments and is intended to increase application availability and uptime for SMEs and remote, deparental and branch offices. Syncro MX will offer server solutions for large cloud and mega-datacenters that emphasize reliability, reduced costs, and simplified datacenter management and administration.
The Syncro MX-B rack boot appliance is the first of LSI’s new Syncro products. The MX-B is a standalone, pre-configured, 1U boot device for as many as 48 servers. By consolidating boot drives and eliminating their associated failures, the MX-B is designed to increase reliability and reduce system and maintenance costs for cloud and mega-datacenter environments.
The Syncro MX-B is transparent to the host system and provides a unique boot image for each attached server. Consolidating boot image storage simplifies system management while increasing reliability and power efficiency. The new appliance uses RAID volumes with hot-swappable internal hard drives as well as redundant fans and power supplies.
Availability
The LSI Syncro MX-B rack boot appliance is available in 24-port and 48-port configurations and is now shipping to manufacturers. Other products in the Syncro product family are expected to ship during the first half of 2013.
