HGST has announced that it is now shipping the first 2.5-inch, 9.5mm Travelstar 7,200 RPM hard drives available in 1TB capacities. The new drive is available from HGST as retail kit as well as in the Touro Mobile Pro USB 3.0 external drive. The new Travelstar drive is also be incorporated in G-Technology’s new G-DRIVE mini and G-RAID mini external storage solutions.

This drive is intended for notebooks, game consoles, and other high-capacity, high-performance personal storage applications where slim dimensions are a requirement. The Travelstar features Advanced Format 4K sectors, a 32MB cache buffer, and a 6Gb/SATA interface.
Touro Mobile Pro
The Touro Mobile Pro portable external drive provides a USB 3.0 enclosure for the new drive and comes bundled with 3GB of cloud storage from TouroCloudBackup.com.
G-DRIVE mini
The G-Technology G-Drive mini offers simplified, high performance mobile external storage with an aluminium enclosure and an integrated heat-sink for silent operation. The G-DRIVE mini provides both USB 3.0 and FireWire 800 connectivity.
G-RAID mini
The G-RAID mini is designed to support applications like on-location digital video and photography. The G-RAID mini ships preconfigured for RAID 0, with two 7,200 RPM drives working in tandem to maximize access speeds. G-RAID mini supports simultaneous playback of multiple layers of HDV, DVCPRO HD, XDCAM HD and ProRes 422 HQ. The mini can alternately be configured in RAID 1 (protected mode) for greater data security, and is FireWire bus powered, even when using USB 3.0 for data transfer. The array also features a soft-touch On/Off switch and smart fan that keeps fan noise to a minimum.

The 1TB, 2.5-inch, 9.5mm 7200RPM HGST Hard Drive Retail Kit is now available with an MSRP of $99.99. The 1TB Touro Mobile Pro solution is now available with a MSRP of $109.99.
G-Technology’s 1TB G-DRIVE mini is now available for a suggested retail price of $199.95. The G-RAID mini is expected to ship in early Q1 at an MSRP of $449.95.
