With the announcement today of the latest generation of AMD EPYC 7003 processors, the major vendors will be rolling out support in the form of new systems, quite a few actually. In just servers alone, HPE introduced 3rd generation of AMD EPYC or EPYC 7003 support in the HPE ProLiant DL325 Gen10 Plus v2 server, HPE ProLiant DL385 Gen10 Plus v2 server, HPE ProLiant DL345 Gen10 Plus server, and the HPE ProLiant DL365 Gen10 Plus server. The company is extending support of the new processors to new Apollo systems as well as new Cray supercomputers.

The company is extending support of the new processors to new Apollo systems as well as new Cray supercomputers.
A few years back, AMD released the EPYC 7002 or Rome processors and brought new levels of performance as well as PCIe Gen4 support to the enterprise. Today, AMD released the highly anticipated EPYC 7003 CPUs. The company is touting twice the performance of the current competition as well as other new benefits, particularly in the security arena. HPE is announcing what it calls the broadest portfolio of EPYC 7003-based systems, with 10 right off the bat, on day one. Working with AMD, and the EPYC processors, HPE currently holds 32 world records on their gear.
HPE is using the new AMD EPYC 7003 processors in their ProLiant Servers and Apollo systems to provide foundational compute platforms that deliver unmatched performance, security, automation, and remote management capabilities to support a range of critical workloads. Since acquiring Cray in 2019, HPE wants their supercomputers to be the most powerful, who doesn’t. HPE is be offering the HPE Cray EX that leverages the 3rd generation AMD EPYC’s announced today. These new supercomputers are said to be 10X faster than other powerful supercomputers and deal with needs such as exascale-class systems.
One way to go is to purchase the above ProLiant and Apollo systems (or Cray if you happen to have supercomputing needs). However, smaller businesses would love to take advantage of this updated hardware without the major upfront investment. Or, as this is the way the market is going, several companies would rather adopt new technologies in an aaS fashion. For those, HPE is offering its newly announced solutions through its HPE GreenLake. GreenLake is an elastic, pay-per-use, as-a-service platform that can run on-premises, at the edge, or in a colocation facility. GreenLake offers more of a cloud-like experience.
While we like storage here, one of the most interesting things for us is seeing the new CPUs dropped into servers to see what they can do, and we hope to have a review to this effect in the coming months. As of today, HPE introduced two new server lines with the HPE ProLiant DL345 Gen10 Plus server to target storage-optimized solutions for database workloads, and the HPE ProLiant DL365 Gen10 Plus server to target virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) solutions. Obviously, both will feather the 3rd generation of AMD EPYC processors. The new lines come with the other benefits that ProLiant servers are known for.
For the converged compute and storage crowd, HPE also announced new Apollo systems. These include the HPE Apollo 2000 Gen10 Plus and HPE Apollo 6500 Gen10 Plus systems with the 3rd Gen of AMD EPYCTM processor to deliver even more performance, efficiency, and targeted capabilities for HPC and AI workloads. Apollo systems can help customers process data quicker and accelerate time-to-insight. The new Apollo systems will be used in HPE GreenLake cloud services for HPC.

Availability
The new HPE Apollo systems with the 3rd Gen AMD EPYC processor are expected to be available worldwide on April 6. The new will HPE ProLiant servers with the 3rd Gen AMD EPYC processor are expected to be available worldwide on April 19. As stated, the new ProLiant and Apollo systems that support the EPYC 7003 processors will be available through HPE GreenLake as well.
