Intel SSD 525 mSATA Introduced

by Mark Kidd

Intel has announced availability of its SSD 525 storage solution, with an mSATA form factor. Intel’s SSD 525 drives utilize 25nm MLC NAND memory to provide PCIe storage with a footprint one-eighth the size of previous-generation 2.5-inch hard drives. Intel’s SSD 525 series will be available later this quarter in 30, 60, 90, and 240GB capacities, with 120GB and 180GB capacities already shipping.

Intel has announced availability of its SSD 525 storage solution, with an mSATA form factor. According to Intel, SSD 525 drives can reach up to 50,000 IOPS random read and sequential read performance up to 550 MB/s, with random write performance of up to 80,000 IOPS and sequential writes of 520 MB/s. Manufacturer benchmarks were performed using Iometer with Queue Depth 32 on 8GB of logical block address range on a full SSD.

The SSD 525 series measures 3.7mm x 50.8mm x 29.85mm and weighs 10 grams with a PCIe mini-connector intended to support applications from notebooks and mobile workstations to digital signage, embedded video, retail applications and IP phone storage. The series features AES 128-bit encryption for data protection should a device be stolen or lost.
