HP has introduced StoreEver Storage, a portfolio that integrates HP tape products and technologies with HP Converged Storage, HP Data Protector, and third-party backup software. StoreEver Storage solutions support tape media, standalone tape drives, and tape libraries in solutions that can accommodate more than 44 petabytes of data in a single system using 6.25TB LTO-6 cartridges that sustain 1.44TB/hr transfer rates, priced at an estimted 2.5 cents per gigabyte.

StoreEver Storage LTO-6 tape media cartridges promise a shelf life of up to 30 years using a proprietary fabrication process that coats the tape head with a protective layer. StoreEver Storage incorporates several other HP technologies to increase reliability and durability, including a data-rate matching algorithm that continuously adjusts drive speed based on the data stream coming from the host and StoreEver TapeAssure technology, which monitors tape drives, libraries, and media to ensure that the tape infrastructure is optimized for reliability.
StoreEver’s Linear Tape File System (LTFS) functionality emulates disk management functionality, including drag-and-drop to locate and manage tape files. Beginning in spring 2013, StoreEver Storage LTO-6 media will feature hardware-based data encryption and write once, read many (WORM) protection to prevent accidental overwrites. HP StoreOnce Catalyst integrates disk and tape backup and replication functions with HP Data Protector and third-party backup software through a single interface, while HP Command View Tape Library (CV-TL) centralizes management of distributed tape libraries.
Pricing and Availability
An HP StoreEver LTO-6 tape drive starts at an estimated $3,999. An HP StoreEver LTO-6 tape library starts at $8,600.
